The incident occurred at an intersection where a taxi unexpectedly overtook a motorcyclist in the same lane, then swerved sharply to the left. The rear side of the taxi struck the motorcyclist, knocking them onto the road. Fortunately, a vehicle in the adjacent lane had just passed, preventing a chain collision. After causing the accident, the taxi fled. The motorcyclist was able to get up afterwards.
Drivers must adhere to safe practices, avoiding cutting off, speeding, or reckless overtaking, which endanger others. Crucially, in the event of a collision, drivers are obligated to stop and assist any victims, not to flee the scene.
Decree 168/2024 outlines strict penalties for reckless driving. Drivers who swerve or weave erratically on the road face fines ranging from 40-50 million VND. If such actions lead to an accident, the fine increases to 50-70 million VND. Furthermore, offenders will have their driving licenses revoked for 10-12 months and may face criminal prosecution, with vehicle confiscation for repeat violations.
