German automaker BMW unveiled the new generation iX3 ahead of the 2025 Munich Motor Show. The iX3 is a global product, and its launch marks a significant milestone in BMW's electric vehicle ambitions. The electric SUV showcases a completely new design, touted as the future design language of the company.

The new generation iX3 replaces the signature kidney grille of its predecessor with a narrower design inspired by the Neue Klasse models of the 1960s and 1970s. This new grille is illuminated rather than chrome-plated, differentiating it from combustion engine vehicles.
BMW's design director noted that the narrow kidney grille and headlight design combine to form a graphic element reminiscent of the BMW 2002. Each future Neue Klasse model will have distinct identifying features. For example, the iX3 features a vertically oriented grille, while the upcoming i3 will have a horizontal one.
The iX3 measures 4,782 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,635 mm in height. These dimensions are comparable to the Porsche Macan EV and Audi Q6 e-tron. The new design improves aerodynamics with a drag coefficient of 0.24. Custom-designed tires reduce rolling resistance by 12%, extending the range by 40 km.
The new iX3 is the first model to utilize BMW's new Gen6 platform, a "technological leap" compared to current products. The platform's 800V electrical architecture supports charging speeds up to 400 kW. Theoretically, this allows for adding 349 km of range in 10 minutes, although BMW acknowledges this speed is sustainable for only 2 to 3 minutes. The vehicle also features bidirectional charging, a first for BMW.
At launch, the iX3 will be available solely in the 50 xDrive version, featuring a 108 kWh NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) battery pack. This battery uses cylindrical cells, 20% denser and easier to package than the modules in current Gen5 battery packs. Range is increased by 30%, efficiency by 20%, and charging speed by 30%, while production costs are reduced by 50%. The 50 xDrive version boasts a range of up to 800 km (WLTP), making it one of the longest-range vehicles available.

The iX3 is powered by two electric motors with a combined output of 464 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds and has a top speed of 209 km/h.
The new design also increases interior space. BMW bolts the front seats directly to the battery pack. The iX3's minimalist interior includes a 17.9-inch infotainment screen controlling most vehicle functions and running BMW's latest iDrive software. A new 43.3-inch "panoramic iDrive" display spans the dashboard near the windshield, showing vehicle information like speed and battery level. The steering wheel features new touch-sensitive controls.
The BMW iX3 is manufactured at BMW's Debrecen plant in Hungary. The new generation iX3 starts at 79,400 USD, with the top-of-the-line 50 xDrive M Sport Pro priced at 84,700 USD. Deliveries are expected to begin in early 2026.
