A commercial truck driver, Harjinder Singh, made an illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike in Fort Pierce. A minivan, approaching from behind, was unable to avoid the turning truck and collided with it, becoming wedged underneath. The two minivan passengers died at the scene. The driver was airlifted to a hospital but died over two hours later.
Singh's 25-year-old passenger was unharmed.

The Florida Highway Patrol stated, "Based on the preliminary investigation, it is apparent that the commercial truck driver recklessly disregarded the safety of others in attempting to make a U-turn from a non-designated area,".
Singh, 28, holds a California commercial driver’s license. He faces three counts of vehicular homicide, according to the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV).
