A tour bus carrying foreign tourists was traveling at a moderate speed on the narrow, two-lane National Highway 2. As the bus approached a blind curve, a truck traveling in the opposite direction suddenly crossed the center line to overtake another vehicle. Seeing the oncoming bus, the truck driver swerved and braked hard, causing the rear of the truck to swing towards the front of the bus. The bus driver reacted quickly, braking just in time to avoid a collision. After the initial shock, the passengers applauded the bus driver's skillful handling of the situation.
Drivers should avoid reckless overtaking, especially large vehicles like the truck in the video. Overtaking is prohibited on blind curves, even on roads with broken lines, particularly when there is oncoming traffic.
Decree 168/2024 on penalties for road traffic violations stipulates that improper overtaking resulting in a traffic accident carries a fine of 20-22 million VND and a deduction of 10 points from the driver's license.
