Agribank launches first automated bank on a Vietnamese island

Agribank launched its first Autobank CDM on Thanh An island, Ho Chi Minh City, on 15/8, bringing banking services to the island for the first time.

Thanh An, located approximately 70 km from downtown Ho Chi Minh City, is a remote island community classified as a particularly disadvantaged area. Its isolated location makes travel and commerce heavily reliant on boats.

Island residents have faced significant challenges accessing financial services for daily needs and business activities. Transactions, from receiving pensions to depositing savings and securing business loans, previously required costly and time-consuming trips to the mainland.

To Huy Vu, Party Secretary and Chairman of Agribank's Member Council, stated that the Autobank CDM will provide timely support to residents, enabling access to essential banking services and overcoming infrastructure barriers.

"The launch of this modern banking facility demonstrates Agribank's commitment to bridging the gap and bringing financial services to underserved areas, expanding our reach to remote regions and islands," an Agribank representative said.

The Autobank CDM functions like a miniature bank, offering a range of services including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, and bill payments without needing a teller. This eliminates the need for residents to travel to the mainland for financial transactions, saving time and money.

This improved access also promotes financial security, reduces reliance on informal lending, and encourages cashless transactions. It will streamline business operations and facilitate the flow of money within the island economy.

Agribank hopes these machines will help residents overcome infrastructure limitations and meet their financial needs.

Ho Hong Thanh Tinh, Chairman of the Thanh An People's Committee, expressed gratitude to Agribank on behalf of the community, calling it a significant step towards transforming the island and boosting its socio-economic development.

At the event, Agribank's Can Gio branch also donated gifts worth over 100 million VND to local schools.

As a state-owned commercial bank with a nationwide network, Agribank prioritizes its political mission, effectively implementing policies of the Party and State. The bank provides credit and banking services to the public, especially in disadvantaged, remote, border, and island areas.

Agribank is the only bank currently serving island communities across the country, contributing to improved living standards, rural development, and socio-economic progress.

Beyond traditional services, Agribank is actively embracing digital transformation, aiming for modernization and integration, working with the banking sector to implement the national comprehensive financial strategy.
