Amazon recently announced a £40 billion investment in the UK over the next three years. This includes building four new fulfillment centers and delivery stations nationwide, along with upgrading and expanding over 100 existing operational facilities.
The new centers will be located in Hull, Northampton, and the East Midlands. Amazon stated this plan will create "thousands of new, permanent, full-time jobs across the UK, with the majority outside of London and the South East." Hull and Northampton are expected to gain around 2,000 jobs each, in addition to positions at the new East Midlands facilities and delivery stations across the country.
Alongside logistics infrastructure, Amazon plans to open two new buildings at its headquarters in East London, upgrade transportation infrastructure across all regions, and invest in its workforce through competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, and training programs.

Beyond logistics, Amazon said the investment demonstrates its long-term commitment to the UK's creative industry. This includes redeveloping the renowned Bray Studios in Berkshire, continued investment in multi-million-pound training programs, and the production of original films and television shows in the UK.
The £40 billion investment also includes part of the £8 billion announced in 9/2024 to build, operate, and maintain data centers across the UK. According to Amazon, this will meet the growing needs of organizations of all sizes, support the UK's ambition to strengthen AI computing capabilities, and drive the transformation of the national digital economy.
The announcement comes shortly after the UK government unveiled its 2025 Modern Industrial Strategy, committing £600 million to accelerate the development of logistics and industrial zones and establish a National Supply Chain Center.
Speaking about the investment plan, Amazon's global CEO Andy Jassy said, "We are proud to have served customers in the UK for 27 years. Thanks to their support, Amazon has a presence in over 100 communities across the country, from developing drone technology in Darlington to producing top entertainment programs at Bray Studios."
According to Jassy, Amazon now employs over 75,000 people, making it one of the largest private employers and taxpayers in the UK. Amazon's investments benefit communities across England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, boosting the economy and providing a better experience for consumers wherever they live.

UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who met with Jassy before the announcement, said, "This £40 billion investment is another major win for the UK, demonstrating strong confidence in Britain as the best place to do business. This means thousands of new jobs - real opportunities for people across the country to build careers, learn new skills, and provide for their families." The prime minister added that whether it's advanced artificial intelligence or same-day delivery services, this agreement demonstrates that the UK's Change Plan is working, attracting investment, driving growth, and helping people earn more.
UK Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds will visit Amazon's London headquarters and meet with apprentices to discuss the importance of investing in British skills.
In February, Amazon announced it would recruit over 1,000 new apprentices in the UK in 2025, with over 40 training programs in areas such as data science, cybersecurity, human resources, marketing, engineering, health and safety, and warehouse operations. Since launching its apprenticeship program in 2013, Amazon has provided 7,000 apprenticeship positions in the UK, with around 2,000 people currently participating.
"This investment will create highly skilled jobs and raise living standards across the country. The £100 billion of investment we have attracted over the past year shows that the government's Change Plan is truly delivering for working people," Reynolds emphasized.
