In response to rising temperatures, Amazon has implemented a series of measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its employees and delivery partners. The company states that its heat-related illness prevention policies exceed state and federal guidelines, with even stricter standards at its operating facilities.
Over 10,000 safety professionals work daily to maintain these high standards. Climate-controlled buildings, air-conditioned delivery vehicles, protective clothing, and readily available water are among the measures ensuring employee comfort and safety in hot weather.

Cooling measures at operating facilities
Employees at fulfillment centers, sort centers, air hubs, and delivery stations in North America work in climate-controlled environments. Amazon is one of the few companies in its industry with such extensive climate control. Facilities also feature industrial fans and building management systems that monitor temperature and heat index (including humidity) to alert management to changing conditions.
At Amazon Air hubs, outdoor workers have access to air-conditioned vans, cooling stations, and supplies like water and sunscreen. Training programs raise awareness of heatstroke symptoms, risk factors, and appropriate responses. Employees are encouraged to take cooling breaks whenever necessary and report any heat-related issues.
Cooling measures outdoors and on the road
Amazon continuously improves working conditions for its delivery partners and drivers. All Amazon-branded vehicles have air conditioning, and any vehicle with a malfunctioning cooling system is immediately taken out of service. A rapid cabin cooling system, now deployed across the US network, concentrates cool air toward the driver's seat instead of the entire vehicle.
A white reflective film on vehicle roofs further reduces interior temperatures. This technology is currently used on nearly 5,000 vehicles and will expand to over 25,000 by 2026, prioritizing the hottest climates. Total investment in heat mitigation solutions exceeds 90 million USD.

At all delivery stations, drivers receive ice, water, electrolyte powder, 1.9-liter insulated water bottles, cooling towels, sunscreen, UPF 45 polo shirts, and wide-brimmed or baseball caps. In the hottest regions, Amazon has distributed 90,000 cooling sleeves to help drivers regulate body temperature while on the road.
Amazon also adjusts delivery routes when temperatures exceed safe levels, allowing drivers more rest time. Last year, the company reduced total drive time by over 107 million minutes (equivalent to 74,000 days), giving drivers more time to hydrate, rest, and cool down. Until 30/9, delivery partners can also participate in a partnership program with McDonald’s, receiving two free drinks weekly and a meal every two weeks. They also have access to clean restrooms, free ice and water, and cool break areas.
Responding to extreme weather
Amazon monitors nationwide operations 24/7 to respond promptly to adverse weather events. The company's proprietary tool, used by the Emergency Response Center (CRC), provides early warnings and guides operational adjustments at facilities and for delivery partners. The CRC can also communicate directly with drivers in real-time to offer support if weather conditions affect delivery routes.
Additionally, the Amazon Air Network Control Center (NCC) at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport operates 24/7, coordinating with airline partners to ensure safe and smooth operations while providing weather forecasts to air hubs.

Listening to feedback from employees and partners
Amazon uses various tools to gather employee feedback, including Dragonfly, an Amazon-developed platform that allows employees to submit safety feedback and suggestions directly from their mobile devices, anytime, anywhere.
Safety is fundamental to Amazon's operational culture. With a commitment to continuous innovation and targeted investment, the company affirms its dedication to building the safest workplace for its employees and partners, whether they work in facilities, on runways, or on delivery routes.
