The launch ceremony marked the first time the two vessels touched water, completing a major phase of the collaborative project between ASRY and Bapco Refining.
The "Self-Propelled Fuel Oil Bunker Barge" project, initiated by ASRY in late 2024, is part of a strategic alliance between Bahraini companies to strengthen the nation's position as a regional maritime hub.

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmed Al Abri, CEO of ASRY, Ms. Afaf Zainalabedin, Deputy CEO of Bapco Refining, and other senior leaders from both companies.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Al Abri stated, "This project is the result of a strong strategic partnership between ASRY and Bapco Refining. It demonstrates our shared commitment to developing national human resources and providing innovative maritime solutions for Bahrain's energy and shipping sectors".
Mr. Sauvir Sarkar, ASRY’s Vice President – Commercial, noted the project represents a year of continuous work, from design and construction to outfitting the two bunker barges with key components.
The launch marks the beginning of the project's final stage, which includes commissioning, testing, and sea trials before delivery. The barges' performance will be evaluated against international standards and Bapco Refining's specific maritime transport criteria.
