Boeing is in talks to sell approximately 500 aircraft to China, Bloomberg reported on 21/8, citing sources familiar with the matter. Details such as aircraft models, types, and delivery timelines are currently under discussion.
This potential deal could be a cornerstone of a trade agreement between the US and China, marking a significant turning point for Boeing in the world's second-largest aviation market. Boeing's orders in China have stalled due to trade tensions between the two countries. The deal would also help Boeing narrow the gap with its rival, Airbus, which has expanded its presence in China in recent years.

Boeing's shares saw a slight uptick following the news but closed down 0.5% on 21/8. This agreement could be China's first major deal with Boeing since former US President Donald Trump's visit to China during his first term. Bloomberg's sources indicate that US officials have begun consulting domestic airlines about their aircraft needs.
Boeing's operations in China were impacted by escalating US-China trade tensions, leading Chinese airlines to halt new Boeing aircraft deliveries in April. This was resolved after the two countries agreed on a temporary tariff reduction in early May, and Boeing resumed deliveries to China in early June.
Aircraft purchases have become a prominent feature of US presidential diplomatic trips this year. During a visit to the Middle East earlier this year, Boeing secured one of the largest orders in its history when Qatar Airways agreed to purchase 160 wide-body aircraft, with options for 50 more. The total contract value is estimated at around 96 billion USD. In Saudi Arabia, aircraft leasing company AviLease ordered 20 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with options for an additional 10.
