This information was announced by leaders of the Vietnam Cement Corporation (Vicem) at a conference reviewing the first 6 months of 2025 and outlining tasks for the third quarter.
Vicem's clinker output in the first 6 months reached 7.95 million tons, a 6.5% increase compared to the same period in 2024, and achieved approximately half of the year's target. The corporation exported 713,018 tons of cement.
As a result, the parent company recorded a profit of 192.7 billion VND, compared to a pre-tax loss of 127.5 billion VND in the same period last year. After consolidating the results of its member units, the corporation broke its two-year losing streak with a profit of 34.1 billion VND in the first half of this year.
The company stated that it has requested its member units to enhance operational reviews, equipment maintenance management, and production optimization to reduce costs. Along with this, Vicem optimized operations and clinker inventory to meet consumption needs and avoid stockpiling clinker.
Objectively, Vicem achieved positive business results as prices of construction materials, including cement, have tended to increase since the beginning of the year.
For the second half of the year, the corporation predicts that domestic cement demand will continue to rise due to the government's promotion of public investment, especially in transport infrastructure and construction. Additionally, the real estate supply is expected to recover as legal solutions begin to impact the market.
Established in 1980, Vicem is an enterprise under the Ministry of Construction. The corporation manages 10 factories nationwide with 16 production lines, a capacity of 20 million tons of clinker and 27 million tons of cement annually. The corporation's ecosystem includes cement brands such as Ha Tien, Hai Phong, Bim Son, Hoang Thach, But Son, Hoang Mai, and others.
In a meeting with Vicem's leaders in March, Construction Minister Tran Hong Minh requested them to adjust their production and business plans to ensure profitability this year. This request was made in the context of Vicem's consolidated loss of 1,400 billion VND last year. In 2023, the corporation also incurred a loss of approximately 1,129 billion VND.
