Da Nang breaks ground on nearly 80 trillion VND mega-project

Anchored by Vietnam's second-tallest 69-story tower, the Sun Group-invested Da Nang Downtown project is expected to create a vibrant entertainment and night-time economy, comparable to Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

On 19/8, Sun Group and the Da Nang People's Committee (UBND) broke ground on the Da Nang Downtown project. This high-end cultural park, entertainment, and commercial complex spans nearly 77 hectares at the former Asia Park site, with an investment of nearly 80 trillion VND. It is one of 250 projects commemorating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on 2/9.

With a prime location on the Han River, between the Tran Thi Ly and Tien Son bridges, the Da Nang Downtown entertainment and cultural park is considered the "center of the center". It is also one of Da Nang's last remaining prime locations, designated as the future site for fireworks displays.

The project's centerpiece is a 69-story, 408-meter tower, second in height only to Landmark 81 in Ho Chi Minh City. It will house a hotel, offices, apartments, a shopping center, and an observation deck, creating an all-in-one destination for accommodation, work, and high-end services. Inspired by the five elements and the Vietnamese Ao Dai, the tower's flame-shaped peak promises to become a new architectural icon for Da Nang.

The heart of Da Nang Downtown is the cultural park and entertainment complex. It includes a 9,000 square meter theater with 4,000 seats (including an opera hall and a multi-purpose hall), a museum, an exhibition center, and high-rise and low-rise areas for tourism services and shopping. It is expected to become a vibrant entertainment and night-time economy, comparable to Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ho Ky Minh, Standing Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People's Committee, emphasized that Da Nang Downtown's groundbreaking comes as the city is actively asserting its position as a leading tourism, commerce, and service center in the region. The project will not only create an attractive destination but also boost Da Nang's night-time economy and tourism.

According to Minh, the nearly 77-hectare project, with a total investment of approximately 80 trillion VND, includes numerous key components and is expected to become a new symbol of Da Nang. He highlighted the project's significance as the city faces numerous development opportunities, especially after merging with Quang Nam.

"With its unique planning and the experience of investor Sun Group, we believe the Da Nang Downtown high-end cultural park, entertainment, and commercial complex will be a new driver of development, contributing to completing the city's tourism infrastructure. It will also be a powerful catalyst, promoting breakthroughs in service, commerce, and culture and arts sectors," the Da Nang Vice Chairman said.

He requested departments and agencies to closely coordinate with the investor to ensure progress and quality, while also calling for consensus and support from the public. He believes the combined efforts of society will help Da Nang Downtown reach completion quickly, becoming a source of pride for the city and affirming confidence in the project's future success.

After merging with Quang Nam, Da Nang is the largest city in Vietnam, boasting two world cultural heritage sites and two airports. It is also supported by two mega-plans: "Vietnam's first free trade zone" and "International Financial Center." Consequently, Da Nang Downtown is one of the new driving projects, activating new development potential.

"This will be a bustling 24/7 destination filled with sound and light, contributing to awakening the night-time economy, making Da Nang a 'city worth living in - worth staying awake for', with memorable experiences for visitors," said Nguyen Van Binh, Chairman of Sun Group's Central Region, expressing his hope that the project will rival famous night-time entertainment complexes in Shanghai, Hong Kong (China), and Singapore to "elevate Da Nang to an international city."

According to the project investor, along with Sun World Ba Na Hills and the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, this project will contribute to the city's development, placing it among the top destinations in Asia and towards becoming one of the most attractive destinations on the planet.
