The survey revealed that 17% of US logistics companies believe drones will be the most impactful factor in the next two to three years. Currently, 7% of companies have already integrated this technology into their delivery operations.
"As labor shortages continue to strain the transportation and supply chain sectors, delivery drones are being hailed by many experts as a solution," said Aaron Drapkin, content manager at Tech.co.

Drapkin explained that while tools like AI-powered route optimization and vehicle maintenance software offer incremental improvements, drones have the potential to revolutionize last-mile delivery – the most expensive and complex part of the process. However, regulatory and technical hurdles remain the primary obstacles to widespread implementation. The Trump administration's previous decision to relax certain beyond-visual-line-of-sight flight restrictions is seen as a positive step, opening up new avenues for development.
According to the survey, nearly one-quarter (24%) of US logistics companies cited labor shortages as their biggest current challenge. Integrating drones into the supply chain is expected to alleviate pressure from the driver shortage, while also increasing operational flexibility and efficiency.
"The demand for drone applications in logistics will undoubtedly increase. While challenges remain, the alarming labor shortage is pushing the industry to seek more innovative solutions to maintain supply chains," Drapkin affirmed.
