The Descartes Systems Group recently introduced Descartes MacroPoint FraudGuard 2.0, the latest advancement in transport anti-fraud technology. It's designed to help carriers, freight brokers, and third-party logistics providers (3PLs) protect their businesses from increasingly sophisticated forms of fraud and cargo theft.
This upgraded version adds shipment monitoring features from the pre-contract, pickup, and in-transit stages. This allows businesses to maintain a network of high-quality, compliant carriers while increasing confidence in operational decisions. The technology also helps detect and mitigate risks related to identity fraud and double brokering, thereby avoiding losses in insurance, legal liability, and brand reputation.
"Descartes MacroPoint FraudGuard 2.0 provides a new level of transport monitoring and control with modern alert and lookup tools, helping businesses better protect their goods, reputation, and profits," said Robert Derin, Chief Product Officer at Descartes. "This solution enhances compliance through enhanced security measures, helping shippers, brokers, and logistics providers improve their service competitiveness, significantly reduce fraud losses, and lower incident handling costs."

FraudGuard 2.0's highlight is its expanded transport visibility and protection thanks to real-time and historical shipment tracking data, automated monitoring throughout the journey, and instant risk alerts. Businesses can verify the legitimacy of carriers and drivers without slowing down the allocation process thanks to Descartes MacroPoint's proprietary transport tracking database.
The carrier and driver lookup tool allows quick access to historical performance information and risk profiles via DOT (US Department of Transportation) numbers or driver phone numbers. This includes the number of shipments being tracked, volume, and any previous signs of fraud. This supports the planning and carrier selection process.
In addition, the technology offers custom alerts for carriers and drivers, helping to identify new or suspicious individuals. This includes drivers who use virtual phone numbers (VoIP) to remain anonymous, or entities receiving excessive orders or with a history of falsifying data. Businesses can proactively block high-risk carriers before sharing shipment information.
FraudGuard 2.0 also helps monitor in-transit risks, providing real-time alerts and supporting rapid response to signs of theft or unusual interference. The system continuously monitors even before pickup to detect suspicious behavior such as GPS/IP spoofing, route deviations, unusual speeds, or stops at unreasonable locations.
The launch of FraudGuard 2.0 marks a significant step forward for Descartes in its efforts to protect the global supply chain against increasing security challenges.
