DHL Supply Chain breaks ground on semiconductor logistics center in Hokkaido

The new semiconductor logistics center in Hokkaido will provide warehousing, on-site logistics, and just-in-time parts delivery for the chip manufacturing industry.

Following a groundbreaking ceremony last month, DHL Supply Chain has commenced construction on a specialized semiconductor logistics center in Chitose, Hokkaido, Japan. The project is expected to support Japan's strategy to bolster domestic chip production and boost the regional economy, as part of DHL Supply Chain's global plan to double its business by 2030.

The single-story, multi-user facility is located adjacent to the next-generation semiconductor industrial cluster in Chitose. It will provide inventory warehousing, on-site logistics, and on-demand delivery services for semiconductor equipment manufacturers and material suppliers.

According to DHL, the project's location offers excellent connectivity: near the New Chitose Airport Interchange, a 6-minute drive from New Chitose Airport, and about 20 minutes from key research, development, and production facilities.

Jerome Gillet, President and CEO of DHL Supply Chain Japan and Korea, said the Chitose Logistics Center will serve as a hub, contributing to the semiconductor ecosystem in Hokkaido and revitalizing the local economy. "By leveraging our global network and advanced logistics technology, DHL will support the semiconductor industry through precise quality control, timely delivery of sophisticated components, and the ability to respond quickly to real-time demands. DHL Supply Chain is committed to delivering sustainable supply chains that balance reliability with environmental responsibility," he said.

The facility has a total floor area of approximately 14,500 m2 (156,000 ft2) and is designed with the flexibility to meet the demanding requirements of advanced semiconductor logistics. As part of its sustainable development plan, the center will utilize renewable energy for building operations, rainwater harvesting for water optimization, and motion-sensor-integrated LED lighting for enhanced energy efficiency.

DHL Supply Chain, a division of DHL Group, focuses on providing world-leading contract logistics solutions. The company designs, manages, and operates supply chains for various industries, from retail, consumer, and technology to manufacturing, healthcare, and energy. With its global network, advanced technology, and commitment to sustainable development, DHL Supply Chain helps customers optimize operations, increase efficiency, and achieve long-term growth.
