Fansipan cable car operator returns to profit

Fansipan Sa Pa Cable Car Service Co., Ltd. reported an after-tax profit exceeding 280 billion VND, a significant turnaround from a loss in the same period last year.

According to its semi-annual financial disclosure, Fansipan Sa Pa Cable Car Service Co., Ltd. recorded an after-tax profit of over 280 billion VND. This represents a strong improvement compared to the loss of more than 172 billion VND in the same period last year.

The profit achieved in the first six months of this year also surpasses the full-year profits recorded for the 2024-2025 period. On average, the company earned over 1,55 billion VND daily during the first half of this year.

Due to the improved business results, owner's equity increased by 2,74 times compared to the same period, exceeding 6,000 billion VND. The company has cleared its accumulated losses from the corresponding period last year and now holds nearly 87 billion VND in undistributed profit.

Total liabilities were recorded at over 10,400 billion VND, a 12% reduction. Of this, more than 7,800 billion VND constitutes bank debt, with the remainder raised through bonds.

The company stated that the bond batch was issued in late 2024 with a five-year term and an annual interest rate of 12%. In the first six months of this year, the company spent nearly 52 billion VND to pay interest to bondholders and reported no payment delays.

Fansipan Sa Pa Cable Car Service Co., Ltd. operates the Sun World Fansipan Legend, a cultural tourism complex that includes cable car services, entertainment facilities, and a hotel in Sa Pa, Lao Cai. The cable car project commenced construction in November 2013 and began operations in February 2016. This route holds two world records: the three-rope cable car with the greatest elevation difference between its departure and arrival stations, at 1,410 meters, and the longest three-rope cable car globally, spanning 6,292.5 meters.

Currently, cable car tickets are 850,000 VND for adults and 550,000 VND for children. For a package that includes a buffet and the Muong Hoa mountain train, the prices are 1,25 million VND for adults and 900,000 VND for children, respectively.

Tourism in Lao Cai province has seen growth in the early months of this year. According to the National Tourism Administration, the province welcomed approximately 6,75 million tourists in the first six months, with international visitors accounting for over 941,000, a 31% increase compared to the same period. As a result, tourism revenue is estimated to exceed 25,370 billion VND.
