Deputy prime minister Ho Duc Phoc signed the decision on 3/9, appointing the new Social Insurance Council.
Nguyen Van Thang, the finance minister, will also serve as the chairman of the council. Nguyen Van Cuong will continue as the council's standing vice chairman.

The council members include: Deputy minister of National Defense Vu Hai San; Deputy minister of Public Security Tran Quoc To; Deputy minister of Home Affairs Nguyen Manh Khuong; Deputy minister of Health Tran Van Thuan; Deputy governor of the State Bank Nguyen Ngoc Canh; Vice president of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Ngo Duy Hieu; Vice president of the Vietnam Farmers' Union Nguyen Xuan Dinh; Vice president of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hoang Quang Phong; Vice president of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance Dinh Hong Thai; and Director of Vietnam Social Security Le Hung Son.
The appointments are for 5 years, starting from 3/9.
Following a streamlining process, Vietnam's social insurance system now operates at three levels: the national Vietnam Social Security agency, which includes advisory and operational units; 34 provincial-level units corresponding to the 34 provinces and cities; and local social insurance offices.
Vietnam Social Security, under the Ministry of Finance, administers social insurance, health insurance, and unemployment insurance programs. It manages extra-budgetary state financial funds, conducts specialized inspections related to social, unemployment, and health insurance contributions, and collaborates with relevant ministries and agencies to develop and improve social, health, and unemployment insurance policies.
