First MPL pilot training program graduates in Vietnam

BAA Training Vietnam and Bamboo Airways held a graduation ceremony for their Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL) trainees at the BAA Training Vietnam center in Ho Chi Minh City on 16/9.

Deputy Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV), Ho Minh Tan; Managing Director of BAA Training Vietnam, Vytautas Jankauskas; and CEO of Bamboo Airways, Truong Phuong Thanh, presented MPL certificates, training completion certificates, and Bamboo Airways employment contracts to the graduating pilots.

Mr. Tan stated that the MPL training program, a collaboration between BAA Training Vietnam and Bamboo Airways, received CAAV approval in 1/2023. This is the first time this type of training has been implemented in Vietnam. The completion of the first course marks an important milestone, signifying a new pilot training method tailored to Vietnamese operational conditions and expertise.

Mr. Jankauskas shared that the MPL graduates from the Bamboo Airways partnership program are ready for their careers. The MPL program equips trainees not only with technical knowledge but also cultivates critical thinking and practical experience, preparing them for the increasing demands of commercial aviation.

The MPL program trains pilots for multi-crew aircraft, tailored to the specific needs of the airline. Trainees follow Bamboo Airways' curriculum, focusing on flight skills, threat and error management, and utilizing modern simulators, preparing them for immediate employment as first officers upon graduation.

Mr. Thanh highlighted that previously, Vietnamese pilots trained exclusively abroad. Now, with CAAV approval and the BAA Training Vietnam partnership, pilots can train domestically.

"We are proud to be the pioneers in bringing the MPL program to Vietnam and hope our graduates will continue to refine their skills to become professional pilots, ensuring safe and efficient flights," Mr. Thanh said.

The joint BAA Training Vietnam and Bamboo Airways MPL program focuses primarily on practical training with the A320F commercial aircraft, with most of the training conducted in Vietnam. After graduation, trainees will undergo practical flight training (takeoff/landing), accumulating 200 hours of flight time with Bamboo Airways before becoming first officers.

Bamboo Airways considers this first MPL pilot training course a strategic step, demonstrating the airline's proactive approach to specialized aviation personnel training, optimizing costs and enhancing internal operational capabilities.
