Fortnum & Mason, the renowned British luxury retailer, has partnered with CoolKit, a specialist in temperature-controlled and refrigerated vehicles, to develop a new delivery truck. This truck will support premium delivery services directly to customers in central London.
The decision to develop this new truck stemmed from the desire for a vehicle that could maneuver through London's congested streets while remaining environmentally friendly. The result is a fully electric refrigerated truck, custom-designed for Fortnum & Mason by CoolKit and its partner, FordPro. The truck utilizes an under-slung refrigeration system on a Ford E-Transit Custom chassis, replacing traditional bulky rooftop units or exposed condensers.

CoolKit explained that this design not only maximizes interior cargo space but also maintains Fortnum & Mason's refined brand aesthetic. However, the design process presented challenges. Initial plans to use a larger truck with a longer wheelbase were abandoned due to size and charging limitations.
Gordon Clark, head of logistics at Fortnum & Mason, said, "What you initially think you need is not always what you actually require. CoolKit helped us discover the optimal solution, creating an impressive product not just for Fortnum & Mason, but with wider potential applications in urban logistics.".
Established in 1707, Fortnum & Mason is a long-standing British luxury retailer known for its high-end food and gift items. The brand is synonymous with luxury and sophistication. Always striving for impeccable service, the company continually innovates to meet modern customer needs. This investment in an environmentally friendly delivery vehicle reaffirms the company's commitment to a seamless and sustainable customer experience.
