FPT introduces AI transformation model for Japanese businesses

The three-layer model and AI ecosystem are expected to help Japanese businesses expand applications from experimentation to large-scale operation.

FPT Group organized the "Ha Long Sapphire Summit" from 1-3/7 in Ha Long, with over 300 Japanese business leaders attending. The conference served as a forum for the Vietnamese group and its Japanese partners to discuss opportunities and challenges in AI transformation. FPT also introduced technology platforms and cooperation models aimed at making AI a core operational capability and competitive advantage for businesses.

Ms. Chu Thi Thanh Ha, Chairwoman of FPT Software, FPT Group, stated that "a completely new world" is taking shape, where AI not only changes how businesses operate but also opens up new cooperation opportunities between people and technology.

After over 20 years of presence in the land of the rising sun (Japan), FPT has built a team of 5,000 personnel working directly at 18 offices and research centers across Japan. The company mobilizes a network of 18,000 global experts to provide technology services and solutions to over 450 customers in this market. FPT Group has also put into operation two AI factories in Vietnam and Japan, ranking among the top 500 most powerful supercomputers in the world, committing to long-term companionship with businesses to re-architect organizations with AI as the core.

According to Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, Deputy General Director of FPT Group and CEO of FPT Software, Japanese businesses are simultaneously facing three structural challenges: a shortage of technology human resources, pressure to modernize long-standing information technology systems, and an increasing risk of cybersecurity. Currently, about 60% of information technology systems have been operating for over 20 years, and Japan is projected to face a shortage of up to 800,000 personnel in this field by 2030.

"That requires a more comprehensive approach, from modernizing legacy information technology systems, integrating cybersecurity from the foundation, transitioning to a results-based service model, to building a scalable AI workforce," Mr. Tuan stated.

Speakers at the event noted that AI transformation offers many opportunities for Japanese businesses, but full organizational implementation remains a challenge. Although 98% of businesses have applied AI, less than 25% have fully succeeded due to a lack of clear expansion roadmaps, data, and suitable governance models. Therefore, AI should be viewed as a business re-engineering program rather than just an information technology project.

Sharing at the event, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phong, Director of AI Transformation at FPT Group, emphasized that the biggest gap for businesses currently lies not in their ambition to apply AI but in their ability to scale it into operational capability. To achieve this, companies need a clear transformation roadmap to evolve AI from small experiments into enterprise-wide operational capabilities.

To ensure consistent and effective AI transformation, FPT introduced a three-layer model. The first layer is CASAN – an AI-Native capability assessment framework across five levels, helping businesses determine their readiness and build a transformation roadmap. The second layer is FleziPT – an ecosystem combining technology, people, and partners, integrating AI solutions for various sectors such as: automotive, finance, banking, insurance, retail, manufacturing, and healthcare. Finally, Digital Foundry supports businesses in transitioning from fragmented AI implementations to a results-based model, measuring effectiveness through metrics of speed, quality, and service level.

According to FPT, FleziPT reflects a comprehensive approach to AI transformation, helping businesses integrate AI from pilot projects into large-scale operations, rather than just deploying individual tools.

In addition to presentations by speakers, within the "Ha Long Sapphire Summit," over 300 Japanese business leaders directly experienced FPT's AI solution ecosystem. The products focus on solving practical problems such as process automation, productivity enhancement, modernization of information technology systems, and data-driven decision support.

Prominent among these is the Vertical AI group with specialized solutions for each industry, such as AIDP for insurance and ON.E for e-commerce. Furthermore, the Horizontal AI group includes platforms like Flezi NEXT and Flezi Metis, which support businesses in expanding AI applications across the entire organization, assessing AI maturity, and building suitable transformation roadmaps.
