FPT Telecom stock surges after ministry of public security receives capital transfer

FPT Telecom's FOX share price hit a record high of 76,000 VND per unit after SCIC transferred its state capital to the ministry of public security.

FPT Telecom's FOX share price closed up over 4% on 18/7, extending its three-day winning streak. This is the highest price the stock has reached since trading on UPCoM in 2017. The company's market capitalization reached over 56,100 billion VND (over 2 billion USD).

FOX is also the only stock in the technology and telecommunications sector to surpass its 2024 peak. Last year, the stock nearly doubled in value.

FPT Telecom's stock has been rising continuously and setting new records since the entire state capital held by the State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC) was transferred to the ministry of public security.

Previously, FPT Telecom had two major shareholders: SCIC held 50.2% of the capital, while FPT Corporation held 45.7%. FPT Corporation is the parent company of FPT Telecom.

FPT Telecom was established over 28 years ago in January 1997, originating from an online service center founded by 4 members. Its first product was Vietnam's first internet network, called "Tri Tue Viet Nam – TTVN". The company is now a provider of telecommunications and internet services.

In recent years, FPT Telecom has recorded double-digit growth. Last year, the company achieved net revenue of 17,610 billion VND and pre-tax profit of 3,588 billion VND, an increase of 11% and 18% respectively compared to the same period the previous year. This profit is also nearly three times higher than when the company was listed on UPCoM.

This year, the company aims to achieve 19,900 billion VND in revenue and 4,200 billion VND in pre-tax profit, representing increases of 13% and 17% respectively. After Quarter I, they have already completed 23% of their annual profit target.

Since 2017, the company has also paid consistent annual dividends to shareholders, with a minimum of 20% in cash. This year, the company will distribute a cash dividend of 5,000 VND per share, paid in two installments.

In addition, FPT Telecom has issued over 246 million shares to shareholders at a ratio of 50%, meaning that for every 100 shares held, shareholders received an additional 50 new shares.

According to SSI Securities, FOX remains a stock with long-term potential. The securities company believes that the average revenue per user (ARPU) growth potential will be maintained in the coming period. Therefore, internet service providers (including FPT Telecom) can focus on improving quality rather than simply increasing the number of subscribers.

The prospects of satellite internet service are expected to reshape the future of the global telecommunications industry. In April, SpaceX, the telecommunications company founded by billionaire Elon Musk, received a license to pilot satellite internet service in Vietnam.

At the ministry of science and technology conference on 15/7, deputy minister Pham Duc Long said that Starlink satellite internet could be licensed to officially deploy services in Vietnam in Quarter IV.

SSI Securities cited FPT Telecom leaders, saying that this licensing is not necessarily competition, but rather brings potential for future cooperation. According to FPT Telecom leaders, this is a new form of internet service, developed by only a few companies worldwide, such as in the US and China. They also believe that satellite internet will be a developing field and could replace current telecommunications technologies (including 5G and 6G) in the next 10-20 years.
