Facing Vietnam's aging population and a shortage of young workers, many companies now view internships not just as temporary staffing, but as crucial for cultivating the next generation of leaders. J&T Express is tackling this challenge with its "Intern Resource Development" program, which offers students practical experience and a pathway to full-time employment.
The program emphasizes hands-on training, guided by experienced mentors. Interns participate in real-world projects, bridging the gap between theory and practice, according to a J&T Express representative.

Nguyen Quynh Huong, 22, from Can Tho, transitioned from a PR intern to a full-time marketing employee at J&T Express. Initially overwhelmed by the fast-paced environment and demanding tasks, Huong embraced the challenge. "I chose to proactively learn, contribute ideas, and take on more complex assignments," she said. "This earned me my mentor's trust and opportunities to participate in significant PR projects."
Similarly, Nguyen Binh Phuong Thi, 22, from Lam Dong, began as a trade marketing intern and now holds a full-time position in the same department. For her, the biggest hurdle wasn't knowledge but patience. "Gen Z, like us, often wants quick results, but trade marketing requires meticulousness and long-term monitoring," Thi explained. She focused on disciplined work habits, thorough preparation, and active listening, which led to her colleagues recognizing her progress.

Both Huong and Thi, members of Gen Z, value the trust they've gained from mentors and colleagues as much as their permanent positions.
While Gen Z is a sought-after demographic, they are not easily won over. They enter the job market with confidence, valuing independence and seeking opportunities for personal impact. An Anphabe survey revealed that over 80% of Gen Z individuals have a clear understanding of themselves and their goals. For them, work is not just about income but also self-expression, fulfillment, and contributing to society. More than one-third of Gen Z students even aspire to work in challenging startup environments.

Kieu Thi Tien Dung, J&T Express's HR manager, believes companies that focus on generational differences risk missing out on valuable talent. "We see Gen Z not as an obstacle but as an opportunity," she stated. "It's crucial to provide a flexible and open environment for co-creation and development. When we do that, Gen Z becomes a strength, not a burden." Dung added that J&T Express fosters a professional work environment that respects individual perspectives, supported by experienced mentors who help young employees reach their full potential.
