During the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit on 31/8, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with leaders of several top Chinese corporations.
Peng Gangbing, Chairman of Huadian Corporation, expressed interest in increasing investment in Vietnam in areas such as wind energy, green hydrogen, pumped hydro storage, and power system upgrades. They also aim to collaborate with Vietnamese businesses on scientific and technological innovation, including establishing a research and development (R&D) center.
Huadian, one of China's five largest power generation corporations, has already invested over 2.8 billion USD in Vietnam. Their Duyen Hai 2 power plant in Vinh Long province, with a capacity of 1,320 MW, is the corporation's largest overseas power project in terms of installed capacity and scale.
The Chairman of Huadian outlined their investment strategy in Vietnam as "1+1+1+N," signifying their business entity, an R&D center, a manufacturing facility, and numerous other collaborative projects. This approach aims to contribute to Vietnam's development and green transition.

Prime Minister Chinh affirmed Huadian's long-term investment strategy in Vietnam as the "right and appropriate" choice. He also welcomed the establishment of the R&D center.
With Vietnam targeting 8.3-8.5% growth this year and double-digit growth in the coming years, the demand for clean energy is substantial. The Prime Minister encouraged the corporation to further expand its investment in Vietnam, particularly in clean energy sources like wind, solar, and hydrogen. He also urged for increased technology transfer, management experience exchange, workforce training, and collaboration with Vietnamese partners.
Peng Gangbing confirmed their willingness to share experience and technology with Vietnam on enhancing the quality of construction and operation of renewable energy projects, contributing to strengthening bilateral relations.

The Prime Minister also met with Wang Jiazhong, Vice President of Yadea Group Holdings Ltd. According to Wang, Yadea wants to participate in electric motorcycle development projects, auxiliary services, and conversion projects, contributing to the development of green transportation in Vietnam.
Yadea, the world's leading electric motorcycle manufacturer in terms of sales for eight years, has established 10 major production and research centers globally, with products distributed in over 100 countries and territories.
In 2019, Yadea invested in an electric motorcycle manufacturing plant in the Quang Chau Industrial Park (former Bac Ninh province). By 2023, they expanded the project, increasing the design capacity to 2 million vehicles annually, with phase one investment reaching 100 million USD. Yadea's projects generate numerous jobs with local workforce and high localization rates. The corporation is also establishing a Southeast Asian green energy R&D center in Vietnam.
In response, Prime Minister Chinh highlighted Vietnam's focus on economic restructuring and transitioning towards a sustainable growth model, emphasizing digital, green, and circular economic development. He encouraged Yadea to expand investment in Vietnam's electric vehicle sector with a focus on technology transfer, higher localization rates, increased employment, and participation in Vietnam's green transportation transformation.

In a meeting with Yang Weidong, Chairman of China Railway Design Corporation (CRDC), Prime Minister Chinh suggested the corporation's involvement in consulting and supporting the completion of the Lang Son - Cao Bang expressway project this year. He proposed CRDC could collaborate and support Vietnamese partners, including major corporations, in technical design and consulting across various sectors like transportation, electricity, oil and gas, and digital infrastructure.
"This is essential given the complex terrain and geological conditions in many parts of Vietnam, which present challenges during construction," he said.
CRDC is a leading provider of comprehensive technical consulting services in China. In 2014, the company was fully listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, becoming the first independent engineering design company listed on the A-share market.
The corporation has established a representative office in Vietnam and is cooperating with Deo Ca Group in model building, capacity building, and resource development.
Yang Weidong stated that CRDC is developing an investment and business plan and will continue discussions with Vietnamese partners and agencies for concrete implementation in the near future.
Prime Minister Chinh arrived in Tianjin on the evening of 30/8 to attend the 2025 SCO Summit and work in China. During his visit from 31/8 to 1/9, the Prime Minister will attend the SCO as a guest of the host country. He is scheduled to meet with Chinese leaders, ministries, agencies, and businesses to promote cooperation in economic, trade, and investment matters, particularly large-scale strategic infrastructure development projects.
