Total container throughput reached 1.27 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units), with 29% attributed to imports, 30% to exports, and 41% to transshipments. The distribution underscores the port's multimodal infrastructure capabilities, with 75% of cargo transported by road and 25% by rail.
Beyond containers, the automotive sector also showed positive growth. In the first six months, the port handled 339,091 vehicles, a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Major automotive players included General Motors, Toyota, Mazda, BYD, and KIA. Of these, 72% were imported vehicles, while the remaining 28% were exported.
Three new companies joined the Port of Lazaro Cardenas during this period: Hongqi, Sunwin (specializing in buses), and Xiaomi, the Chinese tech company expanding its electric vehicle production, with over 1,900 units imported through the port.
The total cargo volume handled by the port in the first half of the year reached 13.4 million tons. This result reinforces Lazaro Cardenas's role as a key logistics hub in Mexico, contributing significantly to regional supply chains and international trade.
