This initiative took place during the "QR Code Payment: Transparency and Unlimited Experience" workshop, addressing the increasing demand for payments and the need for cross-border connectivity between Vietnam and regional markets. To meet these demands, Napas has technically upgraded and collaborated with banks and payment intermediaries to standardize two services: VietQRPay for domestic transactions and VietQRGlobal for cross-border payments.

VietQRPay is designed to support retail businesses and service providers. Unlike quick peer-to-peer transfers, the VietQRPay solution for businesses integrates with sales management software. This integration allows for the display of complete order information linked to each payment transaction, enabling vendors to easily process refunds, cancellations, and complaint inquiries. It also ensures transparent financial management and improves customer service quality.
For cross-border transactions, VietQRGlobal provides a unified identification system at payment acceptance points. This makes it easier for international tourists to recognize and scan QR codes in Vietnam, ensuring a fast and convenient payment experience.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Quang Minh, Napas general director, stated that promoting VietQRPay and VietQRGlobal is a crucial step towards building a transparent, secure payment market. This development protects users and aids regulatory bodies in data-driven policy formulation. Mr. Minh emphasized, "VietQRGlobal will be a launchpad for Vietnam's trade and tourism to harmonize with the regional economic flow. When borders are no longer payment barriers, users will have convenient experiences, and Vietnamese businesses will gain a competitive edge."
Launched in 2021, VietQR serves as a common brand standard for QR code transfers via the Napas system. Over the past three years, this payment method has become prevalent across various settings, from local markets and eateries to small shops and parking services. Users simply scan the code using their banking application to make payments, eliminating the need for cash or card information.
According to Napas, by 10/2025, nearly 90 million mobile banking accounts will have activated the VietQR scanning feature for daily transactions. In the first 10 months of the year, the volume of money transfers via VietQR reached 3.6 billion transactions, marking an increase of over 52% compared to the same period in 2024. The transaction value also surged by 85%, reaching 9.2 quadrillion dong.

Looking ahead, Napas plans to expand the VietQRPay acceptance network and collaborate with regional organizations to advance VietQRGlobal. These efforts aim to cater to the growing demands of tourism, shopping, and cross-border e-commerce. Concurrently, the corporation will enhance its investment in security technology and fraud prevention through partnerships with the Vietnam Cyber Security Association and other entities, ensuring the safe and sustainable development of the payment ecosystem.
During the workshop, economic experts expressed optimism that the transition to VietQR will usher in a new phase of transparent transactions and convenient user experiences, contributing significantly to the growth momentum of the digital economy.
