For over three decades, the Vietjet chairwoman has made her mark in aviation, finance-banking, investment, and technology. Her philosophy centers on: innovation to unleash resources, technology leadership, and growth aligned with national interests, culture, and people.
In aviation, Vietjet's launch marked Vietnam's first private airline, contributing to the socialization of aviation services and deeper international integration. Beyond growth strategies, Thao introduced technology solutions, optimizing airport operations, implementing digital transformation, and applying biometrics for flight procedures.
In finance and securities, Thao helped resolve issues when Vietnam's stock market faced paralysis due to system congestion. Her efforts ensured the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange (HOSE) operated continuously and stably.
On the international stage, 2025 marks Thao's strategic moves. Her businesses have signed large-scale cooperation agreements and commercial contracts with global corporations. These deals contribute to growth, attract investment, and affirm the financial and management capabilities of Vietnamese enterprises.
Alongside her business ventures, the Vietjet chairwoman consistently pursues a social mission. This includes social welfare programs, supporting women, children, and vulnerable groups, alongside educational initiatives and international scholarships. Thao stated that growth is only sustainable when linked to human development, emphasizing the role of women in building the economy.
In 2017, Forbes first listed Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao as a self-made billionaire, making her Southeast Asia's first self-made female billionaire. She has been recognized globally, appearing on Bloomberg's Top 50 Global Leaders, Forbes' Top 100 Most Powerful Women, and Business Insider Australia's Top 100 People Changing Asia's Economy. France also awarded her the Legion of Honor for outstanding global contributions.
