During the meeting, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung recognized Vietnam as a vital manufacturing base in Samsung's global value chain. However, he urged the group to transform Vietnam from a "production hub" into a "technology, research and development, and innovation hub."
The Prime Minister noted that Vietnam is redirecting its foreign investment attraction strategy, prioritizing high-tech projects with high added value and the ability to link with and spread to domestic businesses. Vietnam aims to increase cooperation with South Korea in areas such as: semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI), data centers, research and development (R&D), innovation, and digital transformation.
Consequently, he requested Samsung expand its factories and production capacity, increase R&D investment, and collaborate with research institutes and universities to train engineers and specialists. The Prime Minister also expressed a desire for Samsung to develop more Vietnamese suppliers, helping domestic businesses meet the standards required to join the group's production chain in Vietnam, South Korea, and international markets.
Mr. Roh affirmed that Samsung views Vietnam not merely as a production base but as a strategic partner in high-tech research and development. The group plans to continue expanding R&D investment and supporting high-tech human resource training in Vietnam.
The Samsung R&D Center in Hanoi will also expand its cooperation with universities, increasing resources for human resource training and enhancing technological capabilities. Samsung stated it will continue to coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade to implement programs supporting Vietnamese businesses to participate deeper in the group's global supply chain.
