On the afternoon of 3/7, domestic gold prices increased across the board. Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC) listed the price of gold bars at 119.3 - 121.3 million VND per tael, an increase of 600,000 VND compared to yesterday. This is the highest level for the precious metal since the beginning of May.
PNJ, Bao Tin Minh Chau, along with state-owned banks, also sold gold bars at similar prices. The difference between the buying and selling price is 2 million VND per tael.
SJC also increased the price of plain gold rings by 500,000 VND per tael, listing them at 114.5 - 117 million VND, the highest in two months. Bao Tin Minh Chau continued to list this type of gold higher than SJC or PNJ, at 116.2 - 119.2 million VND per tael.
Domestic gold prices increased despite international market prices remaining relatively stable. Each ounce of gold on the world market reached 3,359 USD, a 0.07% increase compared to yesterday. Converted at Vietcombank's selling exchange rate, world gold is equivalent to 106.7 million VND per tael, approximately 15 million VND lower than domestic prices.
The USD/VND exchange rate also increased to its limit, reaching a new peak. Vietcombank listed the exchange rate at 25,975 - 26,345 VND. At BIDV, the USD price this morning rose to 26,006 - 26,345 VND. Eximbank listed it around 25,990 - 26,345 VND. Thus, the USD price at banks has now increased by more than 3.1% since the beginning of the year.
