The VN-Index chart was green throughout today's session. After the opening auction (ATO), stocks quickly surpassed 1,630 points but encountered some turbulence before successfully testing this level after 10 a.m. The HoSE's benchmark index generally hovered around the 1,630-1,640 point range for the remainder of the session.
Stocks briefly hit a new record high of over 1,641 points but soon retreated. Despite facing continuous profit-taking pressure, the market remained above 1,630 points throughout the session.
The VN-Index closed 29 points higher than the reference point, reaching 1,640.7 points. This marks a new closing high and the strongest gain in a week.
However, the HoSE recorded 170 declining stocks, exceeding the 156 advancing stocks, although the difference wasn't substantial. On the positive side, 16 stocks hit the ceiling price, with many high-liquidity representatives like VPB, HDB, CII, VIX, MBB, ACB, and VJC.
Among them, CII continued its ceiling-hitting streak for the 6th consecutive session. In an explanation to the HoSE this morning, the management attributed this to the objective market forces of supply and demand, stating that the company's production and business activities are proceeding normally.
In previous sessions, cash flow had been selective, mainly seeking opportunities in mid-cap stocks. Today, the three main pillars – banking, securities, and real estate – returned as the market's primary drivers.
No banking stocks declined. In addition to those hitting the ceiling price, including VPB, HDB, MBB, ACB, and VAB, other stocks also performed well. SHB, TPB, and VCB all gained over 3%. Among the top 10 contributors to the VN-Index's rise, 8 were from the banking sector.
The other two sectors were more mixed but generally positive. In the securities sector, VIX and MSB reached their ceiling prices. Ceiling-hitting stocks in the real estate sector included CII, HDG, and several other small and mid-cap stocks.
Despite the VN-Index's strong gain, liquidity declined. Total trading value on the HoSE decreased by nearly 3,400 billion VND to over 52,500 billion VND. However, this remains high compared to previous sessions.
Foreign investors increased their net selling to approximately 2,366 billion VND today. This is the 6th consecutive session of focused selling, primarily in HPG, FPT, SSI, CTG, and MSN. Conversely, VJC was the only stock with net buying exceeding 100 billion VND, reaching over 200 billion VND.
