Sun PhuQuoc Airways announced this on 23/9. The Sun Group airline will begin ticket sales on its website in mid-October, with the first flight scheduled for 1/11. However, Sun PhuQuoc Airways has not yet revealed the inaugural route.
The company received its Air Transport Business License in June. To commence commercial operations, it still requires an Air Operator Certificate (AOC).
According to a company representative, Sun PhuQuoc Airways plans to initially operate 8 daily flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Domestic routes will include 5 daily flights between Hanoi and Phu Quoc, 8 between Ho Chi Minh City and Phu Quoc, and 3 between Hanoi and Da Nang.
Starting next year, the airline will add international routes from Phu Quoc to South Korea, China, and Singapore. Sun PhuQuoc Airways has already received three A321 aircraft and may add four more by the end of the year.
The airline plans to add 8 more aircraft to support the expansion of its international network in 2026. By 2031, the Sun Group airline plans to operate 10 wide-body Boeing aircraft for transcontinental routes.
The Sun PhuQuoc Airways project has a total investment of 2,500 billion VND, with a planned fleet of 31 aircraft by 2030. For Sun Group, this is the final piece in its ecosystem, which ranges from resorts and entertainment to infrastructure and real estate.
The Sun Group airline emerges as the Vietnamese aviation market rebounds. In the first half of this year, passenger traffic reached 41.3 million, a 10% increase compared to the same period in 2024. International arrivals to Vietnam reached 12.2 million in seven months, up nearly 23% compared to the same period in 2024 and 25% compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
However, domestic travelers currently have limited choices, as the full-service segment is almost entirely controlled by Vietnam Airlines after the decline of Bamboo Airways. In the low-cost carrier (LCC) segment, Vietjet holds nearly the entire market share after Pacific Airlines returned its entire fleet, and Vietravel Airlines is in the process of rebuilding its resources.
At an event earlier in September, the CEO of Sun PhuQuoc Airways committed to providing the Vietnamese aviation market with another quality option before expanding internationally. The airline also aims to provide all passengers with a seamless and comprehensive experience before, during, and after each flight.
