Vietjet chairwoman envisions Vietnam as international aviation hub

Vietjet chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao outlined her goal of establishing Vietnam as an international aviation hub, with Boeing's long-term partnership, during a visit to the corporation in the US.

On 21/9, in Seattle, US, President Luong Cuong met with Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes at Boeing's headquarters. Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Vietjet chairwoman, and her delegation also attended. The event took place before the handover ceremony of the first Boeing 737-8 from a 200-aircraft contract worth 32 billion USD.

President Luong Cuong commended the cooperation between Boeing and Vietjet. He also requested Boeing to deliver aircraft on schedule, consider investing in manufacturing and maintenance facilities in Vietnam, and facilitate Vietnamese businesses' participation in Boeing's global supply chain. The president affirmed that Vietnam would create favorable conditions, in accordance with the law, for investors and Boeing to conduct business effectively and sustainably in Vietnam.

Stephanie Pope said she was honored to welcome the high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, considering it a testament to the growing relationship between the two countries.

Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao stated that each new aircraft brings more flight opportunities for passengers, along with trust, jobs, and prosperity for the people of both countries. "This demonstrates the steadfastness and belief in a long-term, prosperous cooperative future," she said.

The Vietjet chairwoman expressed her hope to develop Vietnam into an international aviation hub, with Boeing's collaboration in training, services, component manufacturing, and maintenance. She also expressed gratitude to generations of Boeing leaders, the over 170,000 workers involved in aircraft production, and the support of the leaders and people of both countries throughout their cooperation.

With 576 aircraft on order, Vietjet is among the few airlines globally with the largest orders, despite the global aircraft shortage. Across over 170 international and domestic routes, the airline has transported over 250 million passengers, becoming a bridge connecting Vietnam and the Asia-Pacific region to the world, from Japan, South Korea, India, and China to Australia and Europe.

The handover ceremony of the first Boeing 737-8 to Vietjet coincided with the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Vietnam - US relations.
