The battery is considered the "heart" of an electric motorbike, determining its range, lifespan, maintenance costs, and safety. Most common electric motorbikes use lead-acid batteries, alongside more advanced technologies like lithium-ion and sodium-ion batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries are prevalent in electric motorbikes and cars due to their high energy density, offering a longer range than lead-acid batteries. However, this technology has limitations, including high costs, reliance on rare metals, potential fire and explosion risks from improper charging or technical issues, and negative environmental impacts during extraction.
A representative from Natri Energy stated that sodium-ion batteries offer a viable alternative, boasting lower costs, enhanced safety, and environmental friendliness. "Sodium is abundant, avoiding the global supply chain pressures associated with lithium. Sodium-ion batteries also have a lower risk of fire and explosion, operating reliably in harsh climates, making them suitable for Vietnam's hot and humid weather," the Natri Energy representative explained.

The sodium-ion batteries distributed by Natri Energy have a lifespan of over 3,000 charge-discharge cycles and 30,000 starts. They also minimize the risk of fire and explosion in the event of collisions, short circuits, or overcharging. Compared to lithium-ion batteries, sodium-ion batteries are more affordable, do not use rare elements like cobalt and nickel, and integrate a Bluetooth/4G-connected battery management system (BMS).
To bring this battery technology to Vietnam, Natri Energy became an official distributor of Natrium One New Energy Technology, a leading Chinese sodium-ion battery company. Natrium One has a research and development center spanning over 10,000 m2 in Zhuhai, China, along with factories in Guangdong, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Hunan, and Shandong. According to the company, they have a production capacity of 5 GWh of materials, 10 GWh of battery cells, and 5 GWh of battery packs annually, with a team of over 10 PhDs and hundreds of patents.

Natri Energy is currently distributing sodium-ion batteries for common electric motorbikes, catering to various purposes such as commuting and delivery services. Beyond distribution, the company aims to collaborate further with Natrium One on technology transfer, with the goal of assembling these batteries in Vietnam.
"With the backing of a major Chinese technology company, Natri Energy expects sodium-ion batteries to become a widespread solution for electric motorbikes in Vietnam. The introduction of this technology will promote the transition to green vehicles, contributing to emissions reduction and environmental protection," the Natri Energy representative stated.
