Under a contract signed on 6/10, Alstom will manufacture the initial 83 trains at its Valenciennes facility in France. The group will also transfer technology and supply key components, enabling Vingroup to assemble the remaining 117 trains in Vietnam.
All Metropolis trains supplied by the French group for Hanoi's metro lines are new-generation, 5-car models. Constructed from aluminum alloy, the train bodies reduce axle load, conserve energy, and minimize rail wear. These trains operate fully automatically without drivers, achieving the highest automation level, GoA4.
Headquartered in France, Alstom was established in 1928. The group specializes in manufacturing trains, metros, locomotives, signal systems, and railway operating solutions.
Alstom has contributed trains and signal systems to numerous major railway projects globally, including metro networks across Asia. The French company has maintained a presence in Vietnam for over 30 years, previously supplying signal systems for the Hanoi - Vinh line, Ninh Binh station, and 10 trains for metro line 3 Nhon - Hanoi station.
Vingroup, through its subsidiary Vinhomes, is participating in the Hanoi metro project as the general contractor. The 5 Hanoi metro lines managed by Vingroup span a total length of 303,5 km. These include: metro line 1 (Thuong Tin - Noi Bai airport), line 2 (Noi Bai airport - Dan Hoa), line 8 (Hoa Lac - Duong Xa), line 10 (Dong Anh - Times City - Dong Anh), and line 14 (Thang Long bridge - Gia Lam).

Furthermore, VinSpeed, another Vingroup subsidiary, is the investor for Vietnam's first two high-speed railway projects: the 54 km Ben Thanh - Can Gio line in TP HCM and the 120 km Hanoi - Quang Ninh line.
To support these projects, VinSpeed has signed a contract valued at up to 1 billion euro (approximately 1.15 billion US dollars) with Siemens Mobility. Under this agreement, the German firm will supply 10 Velaro Novo trains, along with communication and electrification systems, for VinSpeed's two railway lines.
