VNG reports 11% revenue increase in first half of 2025

VNG's revenue reached nearly 4,803 billion VND in the first six months of 2025, an 11% increase compared to the same period in 2024, thanks to growth across multiple product segments and a focus on diversifying revenue streams.

According to the semi-annual financial report released on 29/8, VNG's total assets reached 10,005 billion VND, a 6.1% increase compared to the beginning of the year. Cash and cash equivalents made up the largest portion, at 3,215 billion VND (up 17.2%), followed by fixed assets at 2,710 billion VND (down 6.7%) and short-term receivables at 1,015 billion VND (up 16.8%).

VNG's revenue structure has shifted significantly. Online value-added services experienced substantial growth, increasing by 152% to 705 billion VND. Financial technology services reached 434 billion VND, a 13% rise. Conversely, online game services decreased by 3.1% to 3,015 billion VND, while online advertising revenue remained relatively flat at 433 billion VND. Gross profit reached 1,748 billion VND, a 16% increase compared to the same period in 2024.

In the second quarter of 2025, VNG reported a post-tax profit of 14.6 billion VND, ending a 7-quarter losing streak since the second quarter of 2023. This positive result stems from restructuring efforts, cost control, and revenue growth in core business areas.

Online game services continued to contribute significantly to revenue, thanks to products like Lineage 2M, Forbidden Realm, and PUBG Mobile. Notably, PUBG Mobile recorded 7.9 million quarterly users in Vietnam, with a 45% year-over-year revenue increase.

The Zalopay payment platform also saw strong growth, with total payment volume (TPV) increasing by 63% in the first six months of the year. Multi-purpose QR code payments increased fivefold compared to the same period. The app now supports all common QR standards domestically and has expanded international payments in several Asian markets.

Zalo maintained its position as the leading communication platform in Vietnam, with 78.3 million monthly users and over 2 billion messages sent daily. Over 20 million people regularly use Zalo's AI features, and registrations for value-added services increased by 168% compared to the same period in 2024. The app integrates with 25 banks, covering 96% of the market, and supports direct transfers from the chat window to banking apps.

The GreenNode technology segment made significant progress with its GreenMind-Medium-14B-R1 large language model (LLM). It became the first Vietnamese language model on the NVIDIA AI NIM platform, optimized for the H100 GPU. VNG stated this achievement demonstrates its ability to develop domestic AI models to international standards, opening up broad commercialization opportunities.

In 2024, the corporation contributed 1,588 billion VND to the national budget, marking the third consecutive year exceeding 1,000 billion VND. Besides financial performance, VNG was also recognized in Fortune's Top 500 largest Southeast Asian enterprises and received its third consecutive "Great Place to Work" certification, with 89% of employees giving positive feedback, surpassing the 59% global average.
