During the second quarter, Zalo, a member of VNG Corporation, joined the Vietnam AI Alliance and introduced KiLM-13B, a large language model ranked highly for its Vietnamese processing capabilities. Zalopay, VNG’s payment platform, launched its international QR code scanning feature in Singapore, where over 393,000 Vietnamese tourists visited in 2024. This feature allows Zalopay users to make payments at over 120,000 stores through NETS QR, GrabPay QR, SGQR, and Alipay+ QR without currency exchange or international cards. Zalopay also partnered with Danal and Shinhan Bank to implement a tuition payment service in South Korea, home to over 56,000 Vietnamese students, representing nearly 27% of international students there (as of 4/2024).
"We recognize that we cannot compete long-term with global Big Tech in AI infrastructure or models. Instead, VNG focuses on the application layer of AI," Le Hong Minh, founder of VNG, shared at the Annual General Meeting. In June, Minh was also appointed to the National Advisory Council on Science and Technology.

Based on its three-layer strategy (infrastructure, platform, and application), VNG is expanding its AI investment alongside community initiatives. In May, the company signed an agreement with Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM), committing to train 1,000 students and contribute 25 billion VND to R&D over three years. VNG also opened an AI research lab at its headquarters, providing GPU infrastructure to academic research groups. GreenNode, its AI Cloud division, continues to expand its presence at domestic and regional tech forums.
VNG recently announced a change to its business registration certificate, officially changing its name to VNG Corporation. At the 2025 Annual General Meeting, Le Hong Minh emphasized that in the future, VNG will not directly manage specific business operations. This role will be handled by member companies. "In other words," he said, "the new name reflects the company's spirit and structure for the next 10 to 20 years."
