VPBank and Western Union launch online remittance service

VPBank and Western Union roll out APN Realtime, enabling Vietnamese users to receive remittances directly into bank accounts in real-time, operating 24/7 with no receiving fees.

Compared to traditional cash pickup at transaction points, APN Realtime significantly shortens the time for receiving remittances from abroad into Vietnam. Transactions are processed on a digital platform, allowing funds to be credited to the recipient's account almost immediately after the sender completes the transfer procedures. This eliminates the need for customers to visit a physical counter or be constrained by bank operating hours.

The service operates continuously 24/7, including weekends and public holidays. Recipients benefit from free transactions and face no limits on the number of remittances they can receive. Direct transfers to bank accounts also empower customers to manage payments, spending, and cash flow actively through digital banking platforms, rather than receiving cash and then performing subsequent transactions.

A VPBank representative highlighted that each remittance transaction is linked to practical life needs and financial plans. Consequently, recipients are not only concerned about whether the funds arrive but also expect a rapid and secure receiving process.

"The implementation of APN Realtime for Western Union remittances is how we address that demand, while also helping align remittance services in Vietnam with international transaction standards", the representative stated.

Remittances to Vietnam are projected to reach approximately USD 16 billion in 2024, increasing to USD 17,7 billion in 2025. This substantial flow of funds indicates a sustained high demand for cross-border money transfers, which in turn necessitates fast processing, convenience, and accessibility for remittance receiving services.

When remittances are transferred directly to bank accounts, recipients can use the money for payments, savings, investment, or financial management on the same platform. This method reduces intermediate steps compared to cash pickup, and enables customers to continue using digital banking services.

Western Union currently operates a money transfer network in over 200 countries and territories, while VPBank provides banking infrastructure and digital platforms in Vietnam. The collaboration between the two entities aims to connect senders abroad with domestic recipients through an online transaction process. The slogan, "Half a world away - just one touch connects", encapsulates their vision of simplifying cross-border money transfers and receipts through technology.

The APN Realtime service marks a significant step in VPBank's strategic vision, "Building the Future of Digital Remittances". By leveraging technology to shorten processing times and simplify the remittance reception process, the bank seeks to broaden access to financial services and enhance the integration of remittances with digital banking utilities.
