VPBank launches credit card with perks for travel to China

Vietnam Prosperity Joint-Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank) has partnered with China UnionPay to launch the UnionPay Freeways credit card, offering a range of benefits for cardholders when transacting in China.

The UnionPay Freeways card, carrying the tagline "Thousands of miles as you wish, no worries about fees," targets customers who travel or work internationally, especially in China. Cardholders enjoy free foreign transaction fees in this market, while fees for other countries are 1.5%.

Cardholders receive 4% cashback on all international spending. For domestic transactions, the bank offers 3% cashback on travel and dining expenses, and 0.1% on other purchases. Cardholders with a minimum spend of 5 million VND will receive a maximum cashback of 1 million VND per statement cycle.

New cardholders who spend at least 2 million VND within 30 days of opening their account will receive an additional 400,000 VND cashback. VPBank also offers an annual fee waiver if spending requirements are met.

In addition to cashback, UnionPay Freeways cardholders can enjoy various monthly promotions from VPBank. In September, for example, cardholders receive a 6% discount on flights booked through Trip.com, up to 15% off rooms at resorts such as Ana Mandara Dalat, Ocean Resort by Fusion Quy Nhon, and Golden Coast Resort & Spa, along with discounts of up to 20% at numerous restaurants and supermarkets.

A VPBank representative stated that in 2025, the bank is focusing on developing its card ecosystem based on three pillars: Shopping, Travel, and Wellbeing, to provide exclusive value and enhance the cardholder experience.

"The bank aims to develop card products tailored to specific needs, increasing utility and benefits for users. With UnionPay Freeways, we hope to bring the best spending and travel experiences to our cardholders," the representative shared.

UnionPay is China's national payment system, currently accepted in 183 countries and territories, with 99 countries supporting mobile payments. The organization has partnered with over 2,600 institutions, creating a global payment ecosystem. Recent system improvements allow international visitors to China to use international credit cards directly at payment points, making spending more convenient.

Customers can apply for the card directly on the VPBank NEO app, under Cards, then select Open Credit Card.
