On 22/9, President Luong Cuong met with Jeffrey David Perlman, CEO of Warburg Pincus and Chairman of the US-ASEAN Business Council, during the high-level general debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in the US.
Perlman stated that one of the firm's key focus areas has been digital infrastructure development. They aim to support the construction of high-tech data centers, in line with Vietnam's strategic development direction.
As Chairman of the US-ASEAN Business Council, Perlman emphasized his regular engagement with Vietnamese partners, promoting Vietnam's image and role to international businesses.
Vietnam prioritizes science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, with AI as a core technology, driving economic restructuring and new growth in the modern era. According to a May report by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam has 41 commercial data centers operated by 12 companies, with a total design capacity of 221 MW.
Domestic tech companies are also focusing on developing hyper-scale data centers. Viettel began construction on a 140 MW data center in April, and CMC plans to build its first hyper-scale center in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026. Experts believe Vietnam could surpass Singapore in attracting global hyper-scale data centers due to lower land and labor costs, and abundant clean energy resources, aligning with the global trend of green data centers.
