Warburg Pincus aims to support Vietnam in building high-tech data centers

Warburg Pincus, the world's oldest private equity firm, seeks to assist in constructing high-tech data centers, aligning with Vietnam's strategic development goals.

On 22/9, President Luong Cuong met with Jeffrey David Perlman, CEO of Warburg Pincus and Chairman of the US-ASEAN Business Council, during the high-level general debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in the US.

Perlman stated that one of the firm's key focus areas has been digital infrastructure development. They aim to support the construction of high-tech data centers, in line with Vietnam's strategic development direction.

As Chairman of the US-ASEAN Business Council, Perlman emphasized his regular engagement with Vietnamese partners, promoting Vietnam's image and role to international businesses.

Vietnam prioritizes science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, with AI as a core technology, driving economic restructuring and new growth in the modern era. According to a May report by the Ministry of Science and Technology, Vietnam has 41 commercial data centers operated by 12 companies, with a total design capacity of 221 MW.

Domestic tech companies are also focusing on developing hyper-scale data centers. Viettel began construction on a 140 MW data center in April, and CMC plans to build its first hyper-scale center in Ho Chi Minh City in 2026. Experts believe Vietnam could surpass Singapore in attracting global hyper-scale data centers due to lower land and labor costs, and abundant clean energy resources, aligning with the global trend of green data centers.

Headquartered in New York, Warburg Pincus is the world's oldest private equity firm. This Wall Street leader has invested over 115 billion USD in more than 1,000 companies across various sectors globally.

The firm has invested over 2 billion USD in Vietnam. President Luong Cuong praised Warburg Pincus's sustained investment and partnership, demonstrating the firm's long-term commitment to Vietnam's infrastructure, finance, trade, and healthcare sectors.

"The government always values and facilitates capable and dedicated businesses investing in Vietnam, including Warburg Pincus," the President stated, expressing confidence that the firm will continue as a strategic investment partner, contributing to Vietnam's sustainable economic development.

Vietnam and the US normalized relations on 12/7/1995 and elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023. Bilateral trade in 2024 reached nearly 150 billion USD, a 20.5% increase year-over-year. The US is currently Vietnam's second-largest trading partner and most important export market.
