"When Elon Musk first shared his vision for X with me, I knew it would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry out the company's extraordinary mission," Yaccarino wrote in a post on X. "I am deeply grateful that he entrusted me with the responsibility to protect free speech, restructure the company and transform X into the 'everything app.'" She did not provide a reason for her departure.

The resignation comes several months after Musk sold X to the artificial intelligence company xAI, which he also founded. This merger formally united two entities that already had close ties, but also raised questions about Yaccarino's role in the new company.
"The best is yet to come as X enters a new chapter with xAI," Yaccarino wrote. "I will always be watching and cheering as you continue to change the world."
The announcement also came just one day after xAI's chatbot, Grok, repeatedly made antisemitic comments in response to users. It's unclear whether the two events are related.
Musk appointed Yaccarino as CEO of X in May 2023, a few months after he purchased Twitter (the precursor to X) for 44 billion USD. During her two years leading X, Yaccarino frequently and publicly supported and defended Musk on social media.
Born in 1963, Yaccarino worked at NBCUniversal for nearly 12 years. She oversaw global advertising and partnerships, generating over 100 billion USD in advertising revenue for the company since 2011.
