Currently, Vietnam has over 770,000 students in STEM fields, accounting for 29% of the total student population. This figure is lower than that of regional and global counterparts, such as Singapore (46%) and Malaysia (50%).

The Ministry of Education believes that the scholarship policy under Decree 179 will motivate high school students, regardless of their economic background, to pursue STEM fields. Consequently, in three to five years, the national workforce in these sectors will be more abundant, aiming to reach 35% of students by 2030.

The Ministry estimates that this year, approximately 30,000-32,000 new students across 111 STEM majors will receive scholarships under Decree 179.
