This year, Shanghai Ranking evaluated approximately 2,000 universities across 100 countries and regions. The AI ranking specifically included 400 institutions. To qualify, universities needed to have published at least 100 scientific papers in the field between 2020 and 2024.
Evaluation indicators are categorized into five main groups: faculty quality, excellent research output, research quality, research impact, and international collaboration.
Excellent research output carries the heaviest weighting, encompassing articles published in top scientific journals (TJ) and international academic awards.
Faculty quality ranks second. This category assesses the number of international academic award recipients, highly cited researchers, editors-in-chief of journals, or leaders of international academic organizations.
