Previously, on 26/9, 41 students from the school showed food poisoning symptoms and required treatment at Le Thuy Regional General Hospital.
Test results from the Pasteur Nha Trang Institute confirmed that a sample of braised pompano fish from the school's boarding meal the previous afternoon was infected with *Bacillus cereus* strains producing NHE and HBL toxins, which caused the poisoning.
The Department of Health determined that the violations were not severe enough for criminal prosecution. However, the Quang Tri Provincial People's Committee issued an administrative fine of 196,5 million dong due to food safety regulation violations. The principal, who was responsible for the kitchen, and two cooks lacked training certificates for this area. The school stated it had no funds to pay the fine.
Kim Thuy Ethnic Boarding Primary School currently has 199 students, with 75 of them being boarding students. Following the poisoning incident, many parents kept their children home from school for several days in protest.
