31 specialized Tuyen Quang students admitted to Hanoi University of Science and Technology

25 out of 31 specialized Tuyen Quang students were admitted to Hanoi University of Science and Technology through high scores on the TSA critical thinking assessment and provincial or national academic awards, with many entering "hot" majors.

The Admissions and Career Guidance Board of Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) announced on the morning of 23/8 that 78 students from Specialized Tuyen Quang High School applied to the university this year, submitting nearly 300 applications. Following the nationwide virtual screening for supplementary admissions, 31 students were successfully admitted.

Specifically, one student was admitted to Computer Science, and another to Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. These are HUST's two highest-scoring majors, with cut-off scores of 29.54 and 29.27 out of 30, respectively.

Three other students gained admission to Microelectronics Engineering and Nanotechnology, a major also requiring a high entry score of 28.64.

Overall, most admissions (25 students) were through the talent-based admission method. A representative from the Admissions and Career Guidance Board stated that this group achieved high scores on the critical thinking assessment (TSA), an exam administered by HUST. 4 students received national honorable mentions, 7 secured first place at the provincial level, 6 earned second place, with the remainder receiving third place or honorable mentions.

5 other students were admitted solely based on their TSA scores, and one gained entry using their high school graduation exam score. Additionally, 10 of the 31 admitted students hold IELTS certificates with scores ranging from 5.5 to 6.5.

During the re-sit of the high school graduation exam on 14-15/8, these students performed well.

The high school graduation exam originally took place on 11-12/6. Irregularities at Specialized Tuyen Quang High School were uncovered when 299 out of 328 students scored 9 or higher in Mathematics. Due to the involvement of numerous individuals and the difficulty in pinpointing specific violations, the Ministry of Education and Training mandated a re-sit for this group on 14-15/8.

The results of the second exam showed a decrease across all subjects, with average reductions ranging from 0.2 to 3.76 points. When assessed by subject combinations, no student achieved over 27 points, despite 94 students having done so in the initial examination.

However, high school graduation exam scores are just one of several university admission methods. Hanoi University of Science and Technology, for instance, utilizes three methods: talent-based admission, critical thinking assessment scores, and high school graduation exam scores.
