The International School for Young Astronomers (ISYA 2026) has commenced, a collaborative effort by the Rencontres du Vietnam Science Association and the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE), alongside the International Astronomical Union (IAU) and the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (NASL).

This 48th ISYA session hosts 32 students and 14 lecturers representing 15 countries and territories. Established in 1967, ISYA is an IAU training program dedicated to supporting the education and development of young astronomers worldwide. The Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters (NASL) co-sponsors the program through its Office for Young Astronomers (OYA).

Over three weeks, lecturers from Norway, Spain, India, Japan, and other research institutions will guide students through stellar physics, exoplanets, galaxies, cosmology, and radio astronomy. Students will also gain practical experience in data mining from virtual observatories and apply machine learning to astronomical data analysis.

The program integrates lectures with practical sessions, data analysis, and group research. Students will collaborate with international experts, refining their data analysis and modeling skills, and exploring new research methodologies.

ISYA aims to provide training opportunities for young astronomers, particularly those from regions with limited research facilities and educational resources. The program also fosters an environment where students can connect with experts and colleagues globally, expanding their scientific collaboration networks.

Beyond structured classes, students are encouraged to present posters detailing their research results, current research directions, or ongoing projects. This provides a platform for exchanging ideas with experts and other young researchers.

Phan Ho Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Gia Lai province, encouraged students to maximize their time at the course for discussions, teamwork, and confidently presenting their research. "The academic relationships formed here can develop into long-term research collaborations", Giang said. He added that Vietnam's selection to host the 48th ISYA reflects confidence in ICISE.
