Male student jumps into river to save two small children despite not knowing how to swim

Seeing two small children struggling in deep water, even though he did not know how to swim, Nguyen Manh Hung still jumped in and brought them safely to shore.

On 24/9, at approximately 11:15, Nguyen Manh Hung, an 11th-grade student from THPT B Hai Hau, courageously jumped into the Muc river in Hai Xuan commune to rescue two young children. Hung, who was on his way home from school, quickly parked his bicycle and plunged into the deep water despite not knowing how to swim.

Upon seeing one child showing signs of sinking, Hung first brought that child to shore. He then returned to rescue the second child. The two rescued students, siblings in grade one and grade 6, attend Primary School A and Hai Xuan Secondary School, respectively.

The children explained that they were cycling home after school when they collided with an oto, causing them to lose control and fall into the river.

Recalling the incident, Hung stated, "I do not know how to swim, but the road was empty, and no one was around. Seeing the children in danger, I only thought I had to save them". He noted that the river section was neck-deep. After he brought both children to shore, several passersby noticed the situation and stopped to assist.

Yesterday afternoon, the Chairman of Hai Xuan Commune People's Committee presented an unexpected certificate of commendation to the student for his brave act.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan, Principal of THPT B Hai Hau, praised Hung's timely rescue, highlighting it as an act of responsibility and compassion, and a beautiful example for young students.
