33 teachers modified student scores

Hundreds of students at To Hien Thanh High School had their scores adjusted, with the school citing "unintentional errors", confusion, and network issues.

On 28/1, representatives from the School Board of To Hien Thanh High School announced an investigation into numerous teachers who arbitrarily modified student exam scores within the VnEdu management system, causing significant parent frustration.

The issue began with allegations against a literature teacher for unilaterally adjusting mid-term and first-semester final scores for 126 11th and 12th-grade students during data entry. Most affected scores increased by one to three points compared to the original publicly posted exam results. The teacher also allegedly lowered some students' scores by approximately 0,5 points.

A review by the School Board confirmed these errors were not isolated to one class or subject. Instead, 33 teachers across subjects including Literature, Physics, Geography, and English updated student scores in 25 classes after initial entry into the system for the mid-term and first-semester final exams.

Deputy Principal Nguyen Xuan Tai described these as "unintentional errors". Teachers primarily attributed the score discrepancies to entering scores in the wrong columns, rounding issues, or data entry errors made at home due to unstable network connections.

Mr. Tai explained that after grading exams and announcing scores, teachers input them into the VnEdu system for storage, evaluation, and student classification. Historically, the Information Technology Department managed this process, resulting in fewer errors. However, since 2024, the school assigned this task to subject teachers, which led to the current discrepancies. The Information Technology Department is now expected to resume responsibility for score entry.

The School Board of To Hien Thanh High School has not yet announced specific disciplinary actions for individual teachers. Mr. Tai indicated that involved teachers may have their performance rankings lowered.

To Hien Thanh High School is one of six public high schools in the former Thanh Hoa City area, now Hac Thanh ward. For the 2025-2026 academic year, the school has 30 classes with 1,255 students.
