Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST) announced on 8/7 that this is one of three talent-based admissions categories.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training regulations, students who win third prize or higher in national academic and scientific competitions, participate in international and regional olympiad team selection tests, or international science and technology competitions, are granted direct admission.
Students can apply for a maximum of three programs aligned with their award-winning subjects. For instance, winners in math, computer science, or physics can apply to all programs except the three language programs. Biology awardees can apply to 11 programs in the chemistry, biology, food technology, environment, and biomedical fields.
Dr. Vu Duy Hai, head of HUST's Admissions and Career Guidance Board, noted a higher number of national and international awardees applying to the university this year. The number of applicants with international certificates has also almost doubled compared to last year.
Hai suggests that this increase might be due to recent stricter policies on international students in countries like the US. Consequently, many high-achieving students are shifting their focus from studying abroad to studying domestically.
"This has led to more students applying to HUST," Hai said.

HUST plans to admit 9,680 students this year through three methods: talent-based admissions, thinking assessment tests, and high school graduation exam scores.
For talent-based admissions, in addition to direct admissions as regulated by the Ministry of Education and Training, the university also considers international certificates and evaluates applications based on academic records combined with interviews.
On 2/7, HUST released the talent-based admission scores of over 4,700 applicants based on certificates and academic records. The average score was 76.48/100. 12 students achieved a perfect score of 100 due to perfect SAT or A-Level scores combined with IELTS scores of 8.0-8.5.
Unlike last year, when applicants received their results early, this year they must register their preferences on the Ministry's centralized system and wait for evaluation alongside other admission methods.

The 380 students granted direct admission must also register their preferences on the system. They can either choose the program they were directly admitted to or other programs.
The university admission benchmarks for 2025 will be announced before 5 PM on 22/8. Students must confirm their enrollment by 5 PM on 30/8.
