9-year-old prodigy sets sights on top US universities

Aiden Wilkins, 9, aims for Princeton and Johns Hopkins after enrolling in neuroscience at Ursinus College, becoming the youngest student in the school's history.

Aiden Wilkins currently attends Ursinus College in Pennsylvania three days a week. He also continues his high school education online at Reach Cyber Charter School.

"I grasp lessons very quickly," Aiden said. In the future, Aiden plans to study medicine, specializing in pediatric neurosurgery. He's aiming for Princeton and Johns Hopkins, two prestigious universities ranked 1st and 6th respectively by US News.

"Mainly because I've always enjoyed helping others my age, and I'm also fascinated by brain surgery," Aiden explained.

According to his family, Aiden learned to read at the age of two. A few years later, after taking him for testing, Aiden's parents were told their son had exceptional intellectual development. Aiden then achieved excellent academic results in every class he took.

Despite this, Veronica Wilkins sees her son as a normal boy who enjoys playing video games and soccer.

The 9-year-old freshman believes passion and determination can take people further than innate intelligence. "You can do anything. You just have to really put the work into it," he observed.

Other students have entered university at similar or younger ages. In 2019, 9-year-old Laurent Simons completed an electrical engineering program at Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands), becoming the youngest university graduate in the world. He also broke the previous record held by Michael Kearney, born in 1984, who graduated from the University of Alabama (USA) at the age of 10.
