Tu Hoang said she already has a bachelor's degree in food chemistry but still applied to university this year because she wanted to pursue a new field of study. Moreover, she attends classes and exercises to stay physically and mentally fit.
"As you get older, your memory declines. I wanted to find a way to exercise my brain and keep my mind sharp. For me, learning something new is both a challenge and a joy. I also chose a school close to home for convenient travel," she shared.
Regarding her choice of Chinese Language, Hoang explained that she was curious about the meaning and pronunciation of Chinese characters in Buddhist scriptures and couplets at temples. She had tried self-studying at home but found it ineffective and wanted formal training.
According to Hoang, learning is not just about getting a degree but also a way to nourish the spirit, keep oneself feeling young, and live more positively. The 61-year-old freshman believes that as long as there is an opportunity, one must keep learning, as knowledge helps people broaden their horizons and enrich their lives.
