Failing scores in high school graduation exam primarily in math, literature

A total of 617 exam papers nationwide received failing scores (1 or below) in the 2026 high school graduation exam, with math, literature, and physics recording the highest numbers.

The Ministry of Education and Training announced the results of the 2026 high school graduation exam on 1/7. Although the number of failing scores in math was about one-third of last year's figure, the subject still topped the list with 253 candidates scoring 1 or below. Conversely, the number of failing scores in literature increased from 87 last year to 157 this year.

According to regulations, twelfth-grade students fail to graduate if they receive a failing score on any exam paper. Math and literature are two compulsory subjects for graduation recognition.

Beyond these two subjects, geography recorded over 100 exam papers with scores of 1 or below, a significant increase from 19 last year. Several subjects had no candidates in this situation: biology, informatics, agricultural technology, and industrial technology.

This year, the number of candidates taking the high school graduation exam reached a record high of 1,2 million. In addition to determining graduation eligibility, exam scores are a mandatory requirement for university and college admissions, regardless of the application method used.

The Ministry of Education and Training will announce the exam scores at 8h on 1/7. Candidates can look up their results on VnExpress at: https://diemthi.vnexpress.net or through the education sector's system.

After receiving their scores, candidates have five days to request a review if needed. The deadline is 5/7.

Starting 2/7, candidates can begin registering and adjusting their university and college admission preferences on the Ministry's system, a process that will last until 17h on 14/7. University admission benchmarks and candidates' pass/fail results will be announced after 17h on 9/8.
