Gen Z chooses international scholarships for a sustainable study abroad path

The international scholarship and transfer program at British University Vietnam (BUV) helps Gen Z students obtain international degrees, avoiding uncertainties associated with studying abroad.

This year, 150 students received scholarships and plan to transfer to BUV's global partner institutions, realizing their study abroad dreams with lower costs and risks.

Besides financial factors, many young people are concerned about political instability, trade conflicts, and immigration policy changes. The US, Canada, and Australia, along with other popular destinations, have tightened visa regulations, causing thousands of applications to be delayed or rejected even when applicants meet academic requirements.

Furthermore, risks during living and studying abroad, such as culture shock, racial discrimination, difficulties in finding post-graduation employment, and limited residency rights, also make many parents and students reconsider studying abroad.

Consequently, many young people are opting for a "study abroad at home" model, pursuing international programs domestically to save costs while still learning in an international-standard environment, using English entirely, receiving international degrees, and having opportunities to expand their learning experiences abroad.

According to a report by the British Chamber of Commerce (BritCham), the British Embassy in Hanoi, and BUV, in collaboration with Decision Lab, 49% of parents surveyed want their children to experience international education in Vietnam.

With tuition fees only one-third to one-half of those abroad, students at international institutions like BUV can still study entirely in English, in a dynamic multicultural environment, and have opportunities to develop personal skills and participate in international exchange programs.

Simultaneously, international universities in Vietnam are also proactively adjusting their admissions strategies. Instead of relying solely on admission scores or traditional applications, many institutions are promoting academic scholarship programs and direct admission based on high school graduation scores.

At BUV, the Graduation Star scholarship program is designed for students with high high school graduation scores, reducing pressure on candidates by not requiring additional extracurricular activities or separate aptitude tests. A representative from the university's admissions department stated that the criteria are based on score distribution analysis to select students with strong academic potential while ensuring fairness and transparency.

In addition to studying in Vietnam, BUV students can also participate in semester exchange programs, short-term study abroad, or transfer to nearly 70 partner universities in over 15 countries across five continents. After graduation, students receive support in applying for higher education at leading universities worldwide.

Thuy Linh and Ha Linh, Marketing Management students at BUV, both received master's scholarships at the University of Exeter, a top 20 university in the UK. Ha Linh shared that she was inspired by the learning environment at BUV, loved the British education system, and chose it as her next destination for her master's degree.

"BUV also supported us a lot with paperwork and information consulting, helping to shorten the time and increase the chances of success in the application process," she added.

According to a university representative, international learning experiences at BUV are personalized according to each student's direction. Thanks to close partnerships with many prestigious universities in the UK and other developed countries, the transfer process is designed to be seamless and convenient, with numerous attractive postgraduate scholarship opportunities.

"With strategic vision and thorough preparation, students can gradually realize their goal of obtaining an international degree at a reasonable cost, while also preparing for a higher education journey or working in a global environment," the representative affirmed.
